Course Overview

This is a 4-day course covering essential import reinspection policy and procedures.  It includes tutorials for how to enter application data, reinspection results, and sample information in PHIS.  This training has been updated to include catfish reinspection and the data transfer of the health certificates including those in electronic format.

Target Audience

Newly hired import inspectors and relief CSIs assigned to official import establishments.

Course Logistics

This course will be instructor-led, conducted virtually (online) through Microsoft Teams.   Participants will need a government computer (not shared during the training), audio via computer or phone, and internet access via MiFi, WiFi, or Ethernet. Firefox or Google Chrome are the preferred web browsers.  Audio is needed to hear the training sessions and to communicate with instructors.  Training computers or other equipment will not be provided for this training session.

Participants who are unable to use the computer audio option and do not have access to a landline phone may use their personal cell phone.  Additional phone expenses incurred for the training will be reimbursed.  However, only additional out-of-pocket costs will be reimbursed.  For example, reimbursement will not be provided if participants have a cell phone plan with unlimited minutes or if they do not exceed their monthly minute allowance.  Documentation of additional costs must be submitted.

Participants will be reimbursed for local travel only.  If reimbursable phone or travel expenses have been incurred, submit them on an OF 1164 to Ms. Stephanie Kane and she will add the accounting code to the form.   

Prior to the class, an Instructor will send the Microsoft Teams invitation to participants for accessing the training.  Participants should test the functionality of the computer and other equipment prior to the beginning of the class.

After completing the training, Inspection Program Personnel who work in these facilities must complete Import Inspection On-the-Job Training (OJT).  Participants will have up to 3 weeks following the training to complete OJT.  After completion of the OJT, both the CSI and supervisor should sign the OJT checklist attesting successful completion of OJT.  Participants should keep a copy of the OJT checklist for their records.  Participants will receive credit for completion of OJT by sending an email to: FSISAgLearn@usda.govThe email should include the participant’s name, the course number, date of completion of OJT, and a statement attesting completion of OJT.  In addition, the participant should attach the signed checklist to the email.
