Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by FSIS and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) leadership on August 1, 2022, IPP are required to complete Workplace Safety and Health Hazards training annually. The purpose of this mandatory training will help IPP identify serious hazards and learn about procedures for making referrals, filing complaints, and reporting injuries to OSHA. FSIS will provide refresher training annually and when any major changes are made to job procedures.
IPP working for FSIS as of September 3, 2024, are to complete the training by January 7, 2025. New IPP who start working for FSIS after September 3, 2024, are to complete the training within 120 days from the date they enter on duty. The training will take approximately one hour to complete.

The purpose of this training is to educate newly employed Food Inspectors (FIs) and Consumer Safety Inspectors (CSIs) on initial ethics per Title 5 Code of Federal Regulations or 5 C.F.R. § 2638.304, Initial Ethics Training. This mandatory training will increase your awareness of your ethical obligations, help you identify ethics issues that may arise in the work you perform, and provides you guidance and support for making ethical decisions.
As a new USDA employee, you’re required to complete initial ethics training within three months of your appointment. FIs and CSIs often cannot access USDA’s online ethics training resources (AgLearn) to satisfy the IET requirement. This course will satisfy your training requirement.
