Course Overview
The SIEM training is a 1-week virtual course developed from Agency policies, procedures, and directives. The training covers In-Commerce Surveillance, Surveillance & Investigation Best Practices, Food Defense Surveillance, Shell Egg Surveillance and Enforcement, Custom Exempt Reviews, Investigative Methodology, Sampling, Foodborne Illness Investigations, Detention and Seizure, Recalls, Evidence Collection, Reports of Investigation, Case Referral/Disposition, Product Amenability, and Investigator Safety & Awareness. This course will be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams. The log-in information will be given to participants prior to the event. Target audience is Federal or State investigators who need SIEM training or refresher training.
Dates: Monday-Friday, March 16– March 20, 2026
Time: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm ET
9:00 am – 2:30 pm CT
8:00 am – 1:30 pm MT
7:00 am – 12:30 pm PT
There will be a 1-hour lunch break given at approximately 12:00 – 1:00 pm EDT daily. (Adjust to your local time zone accordingly.)

Course Logistics
Participants will need a computer and the ability to connect to the internet. SIEM training will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. This system requires students to join on their computer to view class materials with the link provided. Remember to keep your training laptop charged/plugged in and your MiFi device and, if necessary, your phone charged/plugged in.
Connect to the MS Teams class meeting and login each day which will be provided prior to the training. We recommend that you connect to the audio portion of the meeting using the computer audio, but you also have the option to connect by phone. You may connect to the meeting up to 15 minutes prior to the start of class.
You may ask questions by typing them into the chat or ask verbally by unmuting your audio at the end of the presentations during the questions and answers session.
Ground rules:
Start and end the class on time, listen carefully, turn off/mute personal cell phones, stay on topic, respect others, be receptive to new ideas, and have fun.
Attendance:
Your attendance and being punctual (be on time) is expected daily for the entire class. Attendance will be taken several times daily, by using the Teams polling feature (please mark in the poll that you are present). Please notify or send a chat message to the instructors if you have approved leave and include the hours you will be away from the class. If you are absent in-person or do not respond to the attendance poll or chat messages, the instructors may contact your District or State program to inquire why you are not present in the class.
